Audio PlayerOne application approved during Tuesday evening’s meeting is for a 3-megawatt commercial solar energy facility on seventeen acres of land located east of Rankin. The 4200 North Solar 1 project is generally located along East 4200 North Road in Butler Township.
The County Board also approved the application for a 3.75-megawatt commercial solar energy facility to be erected west of Georgetown. It will be located near the intersection of County Road 750 North and the Catlin-Indianola Road and will cover about 19 acres.
A spokesman for 4200 North Solar told board members solar panels used by his company are manufactured in the United States. He added the steel used might come from Asia, India, Thailand or Vietnam.
The Jersey City, New Jersey company also told the Board it does not get money from subsidies but will apply for tax credits.
The commercial solar energy company involved in the project west of Georgetown has agreed to conditions that include carrying mind subsidence insurance and monitoring wells on some nearby properties.
Also during Tuesday evening’s meeting Victor McFadden was sworn-in as a new member from District 4, replacing Mitch Weaver. And the Board declared vacancies in District 5 where William Ryan has stepped down, and the County Clerk’s Position. County Clerk Cathy Jenkins (shown in top photo) plans to retire effective June 30th.
