THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS-GAZETTE STORY BY JENNIFER BAILEY
DANVILLE — Picking out 69-year-old Wilburn Carr III amongst Friday’s Danville Area Community College graduates won’t be difficult.
He’s proudly decorated his mortarboard in gold letters that proclaim “Mister 4.0.”
And he’s rightfully proud of more than just that perfect grade-point average: The one-time drug dealer and user, who spent years in prison, has turned his life around, thanks in part to his interest in cooking delicious dishes.
Carr, who earned all A’s in his classes, will be graduating with a certificate in culinary arts.
Carr is participating in DACC’s graduation ceremony, walking across the stage with 27 credits. He’s registered for summer school to receive the final three.
Then, “in the fall, I’m going back,” he said.
