Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing solid improvement from March to April; as they also did for January to February and February to March.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed a drop from 5.0% in March to 4.3% in April. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 5.2% in April of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment fell from 5.6% in March to 5.0% in April. Danville stood at 6.3% back in April of 2024.
However, also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 800 jobs from April of 2024 to April of 2025; with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 23,350.
In looking at specific categories, employment increased in Private Education – Health Service by 150 jobs, in Leisure and Hospitality by 50 jobs, and by 25 jobs in both Natural Resources – Mining and Financial Activities.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 350 jobs in Manufacturing, 175 jobs in both Trade-Transportation-Utilities and Professional – Business Services, 125 in Construction, and 25 in Information.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
