THE FOLLOWING IS A TAPS ON TUESDAY RELEASE
The fourth annual “Taps on Tuesday” weekly tribute to veterans will begin on Tuesday, May 27th and will continue each week until Labor Day. Event organizer Larry Weatherford said, “Each program will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery’s Soldiers Circle. A brief patriotic program is presented each week, ending with the sounding of Taps. It’s amazing how the sound of those solemn twenty-four notes affects people.”
The Taps team this year will consist of Rhea and Larry Weatherford, Greg Green, Tara Auter, Becky and Alan Woodrum, J.C. Switzer, Susan Miceli-Green and trumpeter Anita Zoeller. In addition, we have several guests lined up to talk about particular veterans that we will be honoring.
Tara Auter said, “We have several people who attend “Taps” every week and through the years, we’ve gotten to know them and it’s almost like a family gathering every week, where we visit before and after the program. And of course, there are many others who are only able to attend a few times each season. We welcome everyone.”
Taps on Tuesday was inspired by Weatherford’s participation in “One Hundred Nights of Taps at Gettysburg” and Taps Across America. The events are presented by the Vermilion County War Museum and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.
