On a beautiful Friday morning heading into Memorial Day Weekend, the tear down of Bresee Tower was back in full force. Contractor Homrich; out of Carleton, Michigan; had received a replacement part they needed from oversees. And as time was getting close to 12 Noon on Friday, the large holes already in the north side of Bresee Tower were turning into chunks falling from the top.
Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr was outside watching for a while; and he told us that when he was inside his office, he could certainly tell what was happening next door.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Essentially what happened was a part of their hydraulic system went down and they had to order the part from overseas. So they got the part, they put it back on there, and now you can see they’re rocking and rolling. I had a meeting going on in my conference room, and all of a sudden we heard this loud thud; and it literally shook the building. So they are getting into the serious sections now.
And of course, the Downtown Danville spectators were out and about as well, watching the show of Bresee Tower coming down.
