SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) passed two pieces of legislation during the last week of the spring session to honor the service of two local men. House Joint Resolution 8 designates Interstate 74 at mile marker 191 as the Trooper Corey S. Thompsen Memorial Highway who was killed in the line of duty.
“I am honored to sponsor this legislation to honor and remember the service of Trooper Corey Thompsen from rural St. Joseph in Champaign County,” commented Niemerg. “Trooper Thompsen began his career with the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and then attended the Illinois State Police Academy. During Trooper Thompsen’s service, he participated in several escort details across the State that included the president, the vice president, memorial services, and charity bike rides.”
Jackie Wayne “Jack” Steinman
House Joint Resolution 30 which also passed unanimously, designates the intersection of Illinois Routes 39 and 43 on the north side of Willow Hill as the Jackie Wayne “Jack” Steinman Memorial Highway for his many years of service to the community and in the U.S. Army.
“The recipient of many awards including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War, Jack Steinman served twenty years with the Willow Hill Elementary School in Jasper County, was a member of the Potter’s House Ministry, and a life member of VFW Post #1769 in Effingham,” added Niemerg. “Jack Steinman was a respected member of his community and deserves this honor to be remembered by the many people who knew and loved him.”
Both pieces of legislation now head to the Illinois Senate for consideration.
