DANVILLE — Justice Rita Garman never anticipated where her career would take her, but her parents encouraged her to follow her dreams.
The retired state Supreme Court justice, this year’s Danville Chapter of AMBUCS First Citizen, has been a pioneer for women in law.
Garman was out of the country when she learned she was chosen. She was visiting Greece and other areas for the first time.
She said the recognition was a surprise and she’s “very much honored by their choice.”
She said she’s in good company with other community leaders who’ve been chosen as First Citizen award recipients.
