Being in the jungle and serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, Don Mills experienced a lot in his 20s.
That included being severely injured himself and dealing with those injuries to this day, but most emotionally having best friends who were killed.
Mills, 76, who lives on a farm between Georgetown and Ridge Farm, says more than 55 were killed in his company.
“It’s very emotional,” he said.
He, too, says, “what an honor” about going on the Land of Lincoln’s Honor Flight on Tuesday.
He will be going with about 94 other veterans, including Gary Haton, Ron Lindvahl and Paul Trosper, all of Danville. Mary Oster of Danville also was to go on this flight, but her trip was pushed back to Sept. 9 due to a death in her chaperone’s family.
