THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On Tuesday morning, June 3rd, 2025, just after midnight, Danville Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. Fairchild St. for the report of an armed person. Vermilion County 911 dispatchers relayed information that a male subject fired a shot towards the caller.
Danville Police Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with two victims who described a suspect and explained that he fired a handgun in their direction. Officers investigated the incident and located the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Melvin Alexander, in a residence in the same area. Officers eventually recovered a firearm belonging to Alexander.
Officers arrested Alexander, and he was transported to the Public Safety Building, where he was booked in the Vermilion County Jail on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
