People v. Malik Noye 2022-CF-526
On May 16, 2025, Malik Noye (DOB: 4/1/2002), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty toAttempt Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, a class 1 felony. Noye was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and following his term of imprisonment will serve 1 year of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Mark Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on July 4, 2022, Malik Noye was at a gathering of family and friends. A storm was approaching so a clean-up of the party began. The victim was holding the door open for people when Noye bumped into the victim. Noye and the victim argued and then Noye pulled out a gun. A struggle ensued and the gun discharged. The victim ran away but Noye chased and shot at the victim. Noye then fled the scene. The victim did not suffer life threatening injuries and no other individuals were injured.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “This defendant’s choice to turn a personal dispute into an act of armed violence, especially in the presence of innocent family and friends, demonstrates a reckless disregard for human life. My office remains committed to working with law enforcement to ensure that violent offenders are held fully accountable for their actions and to ensure the safety of our community.”
