THE FOLLOWING IS A TAPS ON TUESDAY RELEASE
This week’s Taps on Tuesday program will be Part 2 of our focus on D-Day. Retired History Teacher and Vermilion County War Museum volunteer Fred Rinehart will talk about his visit to Sainte-Mere-Eglise in Normandy. That’s the town where Illinois native John Marvin Steele’s parachute snagged on the church steeple and was captured by the Germans. Steele was portrayed by Red Buttons in the movie, “The Longest Day.”
The program will start at 6:00 p.m. at Soldiers Circle at Spring Hill Cemetery. Taps on Tuesday is presented by the Vermilion County War Museum and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.
