THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY RELEASE
Join us June 16th for a thought-provoking Lunch & Listen with artist and speaker Karen J. Anderson
Danville, IL — The Danville Public Library invites the community to a meaningful and moving presentation on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 12:00 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. As part of the library’s Lunch & Listen series, acclaimed artist and speaker Karen J. Anderson will lead “More Than a Color: The Marginalization of African Beauty Through History.”
This impactful event explores how women of African descent have been portrayed and perceived throughout history, art, and media—challenging long-standing beauty standards that have devalued Black beauty. With a rich blend of historical insight and cultural reflection, Anderson seeks to shift the narrative and empower those who have felt marginalized by racist and narrow beauty ideals.
“Karen brings a powerful and necessary perspective to our community,” said Brooke Truscelli, Community Relations Administrator. “Her work uplifts, educates, and creates space for voices and stories that need to be heard.”
Karen J. Anderson is a multi-talented artist, writer, photographer, publisher, and filmmaker whose work is deeply rooted in honoring and affirming the lives and contributions of African Americans and people of color.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch and join in this free, open-to-the-public event. No registration is required. Don’t miss this opportunity to listen, learn, and expand your perspective—June 16th at the Danville Public Library.
