THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RELEASE
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Investigators have arrested 36-year-old Andre Sanders of Danville in connection with a fatal hit and run crash that occurred early Sunday morning (June 8th) in the 100 block of West 7th Street in Tilton. Tilton Police and Vermilion County deputies responded to a call from a passerby of an unresponsive male in the roadway on Sunday morning just after 6:00AM. The investigation shows that Sanders was driving his vehicle westbound on 7th Street, just before 2:00AM, and struck the pedestrian. Sanders stopped and exited his vehicle, observed that he had struck a person, then left the scene without reporting the crash or calling for medical assistance for the victim.
Investigators located Sanders and his vehicle at his residence just before 2:00PM on Sunday afternoon. Sanders was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators assisted the sheriff’s department in processing the scene.
The Vermilion County Coroner will release the name of the deceased after family notifications are made.

Danville, IL- The Vermilion County Coroner, Jane McFadden stated that a hit and run accident that occurred early Sunday morning, 06/08/2025 on West 7th Street in Tilton, a just before 2 a.m. claimed the life of a 44-year-old Tilton, Illinois man. The victim has been identified as Mitchell Leon Burks, Jr.
Mr. Burks’ family was notified and an autopsy is scheduled for today. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police, and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office continue to investigate.
