As the Vermilion County Board deals with wind and solar projects, one board member is suggesting the board explore nuclear energy. Bill Pickett has the story…
Audio PlayerReverend Phillip Jackson (shown in photo) would like to see the county get a small modular reactor for electrical generation…

And ideally sell it to somebody that handles large electronic data – probably digital or metadata or something of that nature – and have those jobs right here in this county.”}
Jackson says it certainly seems Clinton has already “got their thumb in the pie when it comes to working with Constellation and their nuclear facility.” And Jackson added there are already companies that have really good designs for modular nuclear reactors.
Jackson suggested the County Board establish a committee to explore the possibility of having a small modular reactor in the county.
Some board members have already expressed an interest in serving on such a committee. Jackson voted against the issuance of a building permit for Nexamp/Ridge Farm Renewables. He also voted against a road use agreement for CVE Ridge Farm 324 Solar on Tuesday. But both solar projects, located about a mile apart west of Ridge Farm, were overwhelmingly approved.
