THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
Around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 6/11/2025, members of the Danville Police Department Problem-Oriented Policing Unit were patrolling in the Holiday Hills area. Officers attempted to make contact with two subjects walking at the intersection of Westview and Holiday Drive. The subjects ran from the police officers.
After a brief foot chase, both subjects were taken into custody and identified. 18-year-old Dakiy Keys of Danville and a 17-year-old juvenile were both arrested. Through investigation, witness information, and the use of a Danville Police Department K9, officers located two firearms. One firearm was defaced because the serial number was scratched off, and the other firearm was learned to be stolen.
Due to the evidence and information officers had, Keys was taken to the Vermilion County jail and booked on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, being under the age of 21, Possession of Ammunition without a FOID Card, and Defacing Identification Marks on a Firearm. The 17-year-old juvenile was transported to the Vermilion County Juvenile Detention Center and held after being booked on charges of Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, being under the age of 21.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all subjects arrested are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
