THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT RELEASE
Danville, IL – The Vermilion County Conservation District still has four summer camp programs with open registration! Our summer camp programs offer the perfect opportunity for children to connect to their natural world with our VCCD summer camp staff. Get the kids outdoors this summer at one of the following camps, but register soon because space is limited!
Camps for Children 6-9 years old (as of June 1, 2025)
Young Explorers on June 26 from 9am – 3pm. During this classic summer camp, kids will participate in a nature hike, hot dog roast for lunch, discover wildlife, and create and arts and craft project. This camp will be held at Forest Glen Preserve’s Gannett Education Center for $35/child.
Pioneer Kids on July 23 at 9am – 11:30am also at Forest Glen Preserve. What was it like to be a kid in the 1850’s? Join us to make a jump road, cook a sweet treat, and more for only $20/child.
Camps for Children 10-13 years old (as of June 1, 2025)
Gone Fishin’ on July 2 at 9am – 11:30am at Maple Grove Lodge, Forest Glen Preserve. Campers will practice fishing from start to finish: bait your hook and care for your fish after the catch. Learn to identify common Illinois fish. Campers will see a live ethical demonstration on how to clean, cut, and prepare fish after catching. All fishing
equipment will be provided. Camp registration fee is $20/child.
Junior Explorers on July 17 from 9am – 3pm, at White Oak Barn, Kennekuk County Park. This camp is similar to our Young Explorers camp, but with nature adventure activities geared more to their age range. Explorers will take a hike, roast a hot dog for lunch, discover wildlife, and create a unique art and craft project. Fee is $35/child.

You can mail or drop off the registration form found at https://vccd.org/summer-programs/ at the Kennekuk and Forest Glen offices. All fees are due at the time of registration. Camp placement is not confirmed until fees have been paid. Fee includes the listed program, craft materials, and snacks.

NO adults, parents, or guardians are allowed to stay during these camps. The VCCD offers different program opportunities for families; Summer Camp programs are strictly for children.
