The American Legion Post 210 Riders will once again be hitting the road for the Sparky Songer Memorial Ride. This Saturday, June 21st, riders of all kinds of vehicles will get together to raise funds for the Vermilion County War Museum, as well as to honor someone who helped get the museum off the ground. Harold “Sparky” Songer passed away in 2014. And as the museum’s Larry Weatherford reminds us; Songer did whatever he could for Veterans, and so many are doing whatever they can to make this year’s Memorial Ride successful.

Audio PlayerAUDIO: Sparky was a World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War era Veteran. And he always worked hard to honor all of our Veterans; whether that was through the museum, the Legion, or DACC. The Legion’s already raised money for the event through their Bucket Brigade at street corners, and also by selling the Beef Bundle raffle tickets. And of course, money will come in through ride registrations, and other donations.
Registration begins at 10 AM this Saturday morning, at the Vermilion County War Museum at 307 North Vermilion. Kickstands go up at Noon, and riders of motorcycles and any vehicle entered will take off from Madison Street, which will be closed for the lining up of the Sparky Songer Memorial Ride. This will be a “poker run,” with numerous stops scheduled along the way.
