CATLIN — A cat stolen from a Champaign pet store was missing for nearly three years before finally being found, having traveled more than 1,200 miles from home.
This isn’t the plot of a Pixar movie. It’s the real story of Ivy, a little white cat with heterochromia that was stolen from the Champaign PetSmart in September 2022.
She was at the store along with other cats from VALOR, a rescue run by Doug and Michele Carder, who held out hope of finding her even as years went by.
The story regained attention when Sadie, another cat VALOR had brought to PetSmart, was stolen on May 2 of this year. Sadie was found in the nearby Burlington department store on the other side of North Prospect Avenue and returned within hours.
Not so for Ivy, who just resurfaced June 12 … in New Mexico.
