Mayor Williams says City Staff will soon bring before the Council proposed new rules concerning city parks.

Williams says if not the next City Council meeting, the proposed rules will come up at the next Public Services meeting. Meanwhile, as the search for shooting suspects goes on, work continues to get active cameras placed in all city parks.
Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates speaks during Tuesday evening City Council Public Services Committee meeting.
Chief Yates stated that permits are not issued for pop-up block parties of this size, like the around 300 people that were in Winter Park. Yates says there are already certain rules in play, where officers are able to disperse such block parties.. But first and foremost, both before Saturday’s shooting and certainly now, as they seek information; it comes down to assistance from the public.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: But the problem is, there’s not consideration or any type of planning for some of these pop-up parties. And, that often leaves people very vulnerable and at risk.
Aniyah Davis, 18, lost her life Saturday night after a shooting during a pop-up party in Winter Park.
Mayor Williams says regardless of what new rules might be needed, someone needs to speak up with information about Saturday’s shooting.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: In a situation like this; where it was dark, and there were so many people; unless someone has the decency and the courage to see something and say something; or if you hear something and you know something; now is the time to come forth.
There will be a Community Prayer Vigil for Aniyah Davis; 6 PM this (Wed June 25th) evening at St. James United Methodist Church.
