The Danville Municipal Band has their 85th Anniversary Concert scheduled for this Sunday evening, June 29th, at 7 PM at St. James United Methodist Church. Dave Schroeder, the band’s director for 30-plus years, looks back on how it began for the Danville Municipal Band.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Which had its start in 1940, and was funded by a half-cent band tax, if you could believe that. That’s true; that’s how it was funded. And over the years, the band has played different parks and different locations.
Schroeder says the Danville Municipal Band has always been more than just Danville musicians.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Players that come over from the U of I, Rantoul. And we’ve had folks come down from Watseka in the past and play, just because they love to play. And that’s wonderful.
Once again, the concert has been moved from Lincoln Park to St. James United Methodist Church.
