Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security show slight bumps in the unemployment rates for both Vermilion County and Danville from April to May. But both situations remain much better that they were at the same time in 2024.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 4.3% in April to 4.6% in May. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 5.4% in May of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment increased from 5.0% in April to 5.4% in May. Danville stood at 6.2% in May of 2024.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 775 jobs from May of 2024 to May of 2025, with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,450.
In loooking at specific categories, employment increased in Private Education – Health Services by 100 jobs, in Leisure and Hospitality by 50 jobs, and by 25 jobs in both Natural Resources – Mining, and in the Other Services category.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 300 jobs in Manufacturing, 200 jobs in Government, 175 in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, 125 in both Construction and Professional – Business Services, and 25 in Financial Activites.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
