DANVILLE — A candidate for Ward 7 on the Danville City Council who lost his bid in the April election will now be joining the council as an appointee.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. is expected to swear in Barry Johnson at tonight’s city council meeting to fill the seat of Ward 7 Alderman Bob Iverson, who died last month.
Johnson, 73, is a hall monitor at Danville High School and retired from General Motors Co. in 2018. He lost the April election for Ward 7 to Doug Ahrens.
Johnson said he ran “because of my great admiration for the city and my willingness to sacrifice valuable time and efforts necessary to further enhance Danville’s quality of life, integrity and well-being.”
