DANVILLE — North Ridge Middle School has had its “High Five Fridays” where community members give high fives to the students as they enter the school, The Three Kings of Peace community group greeting and interacting with students at drop off and in the hallways, and other community involvement to get to know the students more and help make their middle school experience be more positive.
Now, a group of three women partnering with Principal Michael Gourley and the school wants to expand that community outreach and encourage positive behaviors instead of some of the student fighting and other incidents the school can see.
The Community Engagement Team consists of Brittani Phelps, who has a second-year student at North Ridge; Amy Schweizer, who has an incoming seventh-grader; and Laura Wiliams, mother of Amy.
Williams and Schweizer came before the Danville District 118 School Board in April with concerns about students fighting in North Ridge’s hallways.
