ABOVE: The city of Danville is looking to purchase the former VFW building on Pine Street for economic development.
DANVILLE — With VFW Post 728 dissolved and its home on Pine Street no longer being used while a new post takes shape, the Danville City Council’s Public Services Committee is set to vote Tuesday on acquiring the building for economic development.
The city would buy the property at 8 E. Pine St. for $160,000 from the VFW Department of Illinois in Springfield. Funding would come from the Western Gateway Tax Increment Financing District and Infrastructure Development fund.
“It’s been for sale for a while,” said Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. “It was on the auction block, and they reached out to the city
“The final purpose (of the building) has not yet been determined,” he added.
