Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security once again show slight bumps in the unemployment rates for both Vermilion County and Danville from May to June. But both situations remain much better than they were at the same time in 2024.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 4.6% in May to 4.8% June. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 6.6% in June of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment increased from 5.4% in May to 5.7% in June. Danville stood at 7.8% in June of 2024.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 700 jobs from June of 2024 to June of 2025, with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,625.
In looking at specific categories, employment increased in Private Education – Health Services by 100 jobs, and in Natural Resources – Mining by 25 jobs.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 300 jobs in Manufacturing, 125 jobs in Government and Professional – Business Services, 100 in Construction and Trade – Transportation – Utilities, 50 in Leisure – Hospitality, and 25 in the Other Services category.
There were no changes in Information and Financial Activities.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
