As hot, humid weather continues in our area, some senior citizens have found relief at the CRIS Healthy Aging Center in Danville. Bill Pickett has more…
Lisa Miller is the CRIS Executive Director…
{AUDIO: “We are a designated cooling center for Vermilion County during our open hours – which is 7:00 to 4:00, every day Monday through Friday. We always have cold drinks available for people if they stop in, or a warm cup of coffee. I don’t think coffee is a big seller right now – but maybe in the morning still for our breakfast crowd. But, yes, we are a cooling center, and we would be able to help anybody that wanted to stop in.”}
The CRIS building at 309 North Franklin Street in Danville is where seniors 60 or older, or the disabled, can get help with a variety of services. They range from nutrition services and tax assistance during tax season – to a license plate discount (to those who qualify), and a senior health assistance program.
CRIS is also a location for the Garden Share program…
{AUDIO: “The Garden Share is every Wednesday from noon to one. And we partner with the U. of I. Master Gardeners and local Master Gardeners and O.S.F. And even local gardeners – so if there’s any local gardeners out there that want to drop stuff off because they have an abundance, it would be greatly appreciated.”}
CRIS offers a low cost breakfast for seniors during the week, and lunch on some days. Additional information about programs offered by the agency is available by calling the CRIS Center at 217-443-2999.
