DANVILLE — When Crosspoint Human Services’ Brittany Morris was asked if she had the means to make an impact on local youth, what would she do?
She said her answer was, “I would teach them resiliency because the ability to bend and not break provides a foundation for thriving through a life that will inevitably encounter hardships.”
That’s where her idea for The Resiliency Project and a Summer Art Showcase came from.
“The Resiliency Project is a social emotional curriculum built to directly combat Adverse Childhood Experience (ACES). Utilizing a variety of artistic modalities, directed discussions and reflective activities, students explore what it means to build protective factors,” according to Morris, director of Crosspoint’s Outpatient Mental Health Clinic.
About 40 students showcased their artwork on Wednesday at Lincoln Park in Danville in a culmination of the summer partnership with Crosspoint Human Services and Project Success of Vermilion County.
