THE FOLLOWING IS A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS RELEASE
WHAT: Danville National Cemetery will host a wreath-laying ceremony. The ‘Spirit of ’45’ event honors World War II Veterans on the 80th anniversary of President Truman’s announcement of the unconditional surrender of Imperial Japan marking the end of World War II. The ceremony will include remarks by Danville National Cemetery, a wreath dedication, a moment of silence, and military honors.

Participation will include:
- Taps by American Legion Post 210 Danville, IL
- Presentation of Colors by American Legion Post 210 Danville, IL
- Rifle Salute by American Legion Post 210 Danville, IL
WHEN/WHERE: The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., Aug. 14, 2025, at Danville National Cemetery’s Committal Shelter located in the center of the cemetery. This will be an outdoor event, please plan accordingly.
Parking: Parking is available for the public onsite; Mobility impaired users with Handicap tags will have limited space parking. News Media Parking: Check in upon arrival.
WHY: The Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration traditionally holds ‘Spirit of ’45’ commemoration events every five years at its 156 cemeteries commemorating the service and sacrifice of World War II Veterans.
