Although much attention lately has been on proposed solar farms in Vermilion County, a public hearing on Monday is regarding a proposed wind energy facility. Musketeer Wind Energy, LLC has proposed a commercial wind energy facility expected to generate 300 megawatts of power using up to 81 wind towers.
The public hearing begins at 9:00 a.m. Monday, (August 11, 2025) at the Joseph G. Cannon Building at 201 North Vermilion Street in Danville. The hearing will be held in the county board meeting room located on the second floor of the building.
Musketeer Wind Energy, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Invenergy Wind Development North America LLC.
The proposed Musketeer Wind project would be located in northern Vermilion County, bounded by the county border on the west and north, Hoopeston on the east, and CR (County Road) 3300N on the south. The project would connect to the electrical grid through the existing Hoopeston sub-station.
The siting permit application that was filed on May 28, 2025 says the project includes approximately 200 participating properties which will host facilities. It adds nearly 500 properties are subject to executed agreements with the applicant, which equates to roughly 36,000 acres.
The project anticipates it will pay over $3.2 million dollars in annual payments to participating landowners, with the payments increasing over time. The application says that in addition to the monetary benefits for project participants, there would also be increased tax revenue to the Hoopeston School District, Danville Area Community College, and the Butler, Grant, and Middlefork Townships and road districts.
Once testimony is concluded at the public hearing, the Wind and Solar Committee will make a recommendation to the Vermilion County Board on whether the siting permit application should be approved.
