Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr and Community Relations Administrator Rheanna Ollis recently joined Tommy B on D102’s The Big Show to talk about the motivation behind the city’s rebrand campaign, “You Decide What’s Possible.”
Mayor Williams said it’s a matter of not contemplating what’s lost from the past, and instead focusing on what Danville offers NOW and for THE FUTURE. As an example, Williams spoke of meeting people who relocated in Danville not because of family or previous connections, but rather because “this is where we want to be.”
AUDIO: I met a family from Seattle recently. I’m like, “I love Danville, but why us.” And they’re like, “We looked and the cost of living is incredible here. And then the quality of life; with all of the parks, and all of the activities that you guys have going on. We were spending two hours a day in traffic just to get to and from work. Here, we can get anywhere in 10 or 15 minutes.
And speaking of Danville’s parks, Rheanna Ollis says the enhancements just keep coming.
AUDIO: We have parks all over the city that we’re improving. From the Tennis Center, where we just basically refinished everything there; to Ellsworth Park getting the 18 holes, to everything else. As simple as, well not even simple, because it is quite complex; just finishing the roofing and making those infrastructure improvements so those facilities can be used in the parks; and be safe and be dry.
