THE FOLLOWING IS AN INDIANA STATE POLICE RELEASE
Montgomery County – On August 6, 2025, just before 10:45 p.m., Trooper Payton Parker was patrolling Interstate 74 eastbound near the 29-mile marker. Trooper Parker stopped a 2018 Nissan Rogue for traveling above 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.
During the course of the traffic stop, Trooper Parker observed signs that criminal activity might be afoot. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene, and at that point, the driver fled from the traffic stop eastbound on I-74.
Officers pursued the Nissan eastbound on I-74 to U.S. 231, where the vehicle exited and continued northbound. The pursuit continued to County Road 400 North, where the suspect vehicle struck tire deflation devices deployed across the roadway. Shortly after, the Nissan ran off the road, then continued fleeing northbound to County Road 550 North, where it came to a stop. The driver and passenger were safely taken into custody.
During the investigation, officers located a handgun and suspected marijuana. Both the driver and passenger were transported to the Montgomery County Jail. The driver’s name is being withheld due to being a juvenile.
The passenger was identified as Caleb Davis, 19, of Peoria, Illinois, and faces the following preliminary charges:
- Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun with a Prior Conviction – Level 5 Felony
- Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor – Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement – Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
Trooper Parker was assisted by other troopers from the Lafayette Post, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Crawfordsville Police Department, and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
