Aqua has announced that they will be will be flushing the distribution system for customers east of Vermilion Street to Bowman, and south of Winter Avenue to Fairchild Street; beginning 08-15-2025 and ending 08-19-2025, from approximately 7am to 4pm. Flushing fire hydrants washes away naturally occurring minerals that might have deposited on the insides of pipes over time and ensures proper operation of the fire hydrants. The natural minerals are not unsafe, but they can cause water to be discolored.
During the flushing program, customers may experience decreased water pressure or temporary water discoloration as it cleans out the pipes. They are asked to be mindful of the possible water discoloration when doing laundry.
After the system is flushed, Aqua recommends that you consider removing and cleaning the aerators on your faucets. It is also suggested that you flush your water line by running the outside spigot for a few minutes to help purge any sediment before entering your household plumbing. If you have not done so recently, it is recommended that you flush your water heater in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
