Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – August 24 – August 30, 2025
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6. August 26: Teen Crafternoons. Stop by the library Tuesdays in July and August for an hour of fun, hands-on crafts—think watercolors, origami, bracelets, DIY projects, and more. No registration needed—just bring your creativity and hang out! 3:00 – 4:00 PM on the 2nd Floor. Ages 13-19.
August 26: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Nailed it! Inspired by the Netflix TV series, tweens will be presented with a craft and supplies, but no instructions! 5:00 PM in the Program Room. Ages 8-12.
August 26: Teen Universal Yums. Ready to snack your way around the world? Each month, teens can explore a different country through its unique treats, fun trivia, and music from that culture. It’s a flavorful, interactive experience you won’t want to miss! 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the 2nd Floor Conference Room. Ages 13-19.
August 26: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room.
August 27: Teen Writing Club. Join us every Wednesday for Teen Writing Club! Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts. 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm on the 2nd Floor.
August 27: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
August 28: Silent Book Club. A cozy, no-pressure gathering for readers of all kinds! Bring your own book or check one out, enjoy a quiet hour of reading, and connect with your community in a relaxed, welcoming space. No assigned reading, no expectations—just books, snacks, and good company. The 4th Thursday of the month August – October. 4:30 – 6:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
August 30: Delightful Desserts with Illinois Extension. Join us to learn how to create healthy desserts for you and your family. This fun, hands-on session will show you how to satisfy your sweet tooth the smart way. Participants will get to make their own healthy dessert! *Limited space available. August 30: Lit Fit with Mandy. Join us Saturdays for a dance fitness series that’s as fun as your favorite book. All fitness levels welcome – just bring your water bottle and wear clothes that can handle your best moves! 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
August 30: Sensory and Bilingual Story Adventures. A unique programming experience combining bilingual storytelling with sensory-friendly activities, designed to engage children of all abilities. This inclusive program creates a welcoming space where stories come to life through interactive elements, fostering language development and sensory exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Saturdays at 11 a.m. in the Children’s Department.
Adult Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for August’s Paintable Magnet take-and-make craft! While supplies last.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Tablets for Tweens. Danville Public Library’s Children’s Department is excited to announce that we have iPads available for Tween use. The iPads are pre-installed with games and apps that are sure to capture the imagination and promote lifelong learning. Tweens can make videos with Stop Motion Studio, record music with GarageBand, design graphics with Canva, and so much more!
Weekly Crafts. Drop by for fun crafts in the children’s department. Available Monday through Thursday from 8 am-6:30 pm and Fri-Sat 8 am-4 pm. New craft each week! This week: Watermelon Sunglasses.
