Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing bumps in the unemployment rates in Vermilion County and Danville for the third straight month, this time more significant jumps than the last two monthly reports.
However, both Vermilion County’s and Danville’s situations remain much better than one year ago.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 4.8% in June to 5.9% in July. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 7.0% in July of 2024.
For the city of Danville, unemployment increased from 5.7% in June to 7.0% in July. Danville stood at 8.5% in July of 2024.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 950 jobs from July of 2024 to July of 2025, with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,175.
In looking at specific categories, employment over the last year increased in Private Education – Health Services by 125 jobs, and in Natural Resources – Mining by 25 jobs.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 450 jobs in Manufacturing, 225 jobs in Professional -Business Services, 125 in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, 100 in both Government and Construction, and 25 in both Leisure – Hospitality and Finance.
There were no changes over the year in the Information and Other Services categories.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
