Saturday afternoon (Aug 23rd) at Danville Stadium, the Danville Police vs Fire charity softball game returned in full force. The beneficiary was the Mike Stephens Memorial Scholarship for students at Bismarck Henning Rossville Alvin High School. Stephens was a Danville Police Officer; and prior to the game Officer Josh Eddington was thrilled with the overflow turnout for the game.
AUDIO: I am overly impressed with the number of people that are already here, especially for the opening ceremonies. And it’s a very touching tribute for Mike Stephens. He was a close personal friend, but he used to run this. He loved seeing people out, enjoying the show. And we’re more than happy to put it on for him in his honor.

On the Fire Department side, Lieutenant David Jones said the team was ready to play, and ready to raise money for a wonderful cause.
AUDIO: The firemen are hoping to come out on top in this game. I know in years past, it’s always been the cops; but this year we’re hoping the Fire comes back on top. It’s a great cause for the scholarship fund for Mike Stephens, great guy; and hopefully we can raise some funds for that scholarship.

And indeed, money was made for the Stephens Memorial Scholarship; and the Fire Department was ready to play, as they scored a 25-9 win in the featured opening game.
