This past Saturday afternoon (Aug 23rd), Mary Catherine Roberson hosted an official kick-off for her Democratic candidacy for the 104th Illinois House District, at the Heron in Downtown Danville. Roberson, who ran for Vermilion County Clerk back in 2018, says she started thinking about taking this new step as she began working for Congresswoman Robin Kelly’s office.
AUDIO: It’s been in my head for the last two years, if I’m going to be honest. And I had just started working in my current position; so two years ago I didn’t think I was quite ready to step out, as I was learning a new roll. I’ve had time being in trainings; I’ve had time working officially since then. And so, you know, when those petitions dropped I said “you know what, now is the time.”
Roberson says one thing she’s learned from Congresswoman Kelly is to work well with the other party, both across the aisle and among constituents.
AUDIO: So I think that’s important in a public servant, to learn and to know that the folks who don’t agree with you are still your constituents, and you still have to make sure that they have the resources that they need also. And I think she does a really good job of that also.
The 104th Illinois House District is currently held by Republican Brandun Schweizer.
