DANVILLE — Another potential candidate for Vermilion County sheriff has picked up a petition to seek election in 2026.
Hugh Sands of Rossville would be a Democratic candidate. Republican Mike Hartshorn already has announced his plans to succeed his retiring father, Pat.
September will mark 10 years since Sands retired after a law enforcement career of about 22 years, he wrote in a social media post.
He said he has passion and commitment “to those I had served both at the county and the villages I worked as a police officer. “
