A public hearing that began back on August 11th concerning a now proposed wind energy and battery facility is set to resume at 9 AM Tuesday (Sept 9th) morning in the Vermilion County Board meeting room.
Musketeer Wind Energy, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Invenergy Wind Development North America LLC.
The proposed Musketeer Wind project would be located in northern Vermilion County; bounded by the county border on the west and north, and Hoopeston on the east. The project is scheduled to connect to the electrical grid through the existing Hoopeston sub-station. The project includes wind turbines, an eight acre lithium phosphate battery storage facility, and five acres of additional buildings.
During the start of the public hearing on August 11th, support for the project was expressed by Hoopeston Area School District Business Manager Mark Eighner, who is also Rankin’s mayor, saying the project would bring “welcome revenue” for the school district. In fact, Project Manager Greg Vasilion stated during August 11th proceedings that out of the projected $100 million in revenue the project would bring over the next 30 ears, $45 million of that would indeed go to the Hoopeston School District.
Also during the August 11th proceedings, Joyce Romine of rural Potomac noted the benefits being quoted by Vasilion would be spread over 30 years. And when some citizens asked how much Musketeer is paying landowners for easements or ‘good neighbor agreements’ they were told that information is confidential.
