ABOVE: North Ridge Middle School Home Program Interventionist Chris Hightower poses with students prior to the Thurs Sept 11th Family Karaoke Night, kicking off a new series of monthly family events (2nd Thursday of each month).
This past Thursday evening at North Ridge Middle School was an opportunity for students and parents alike to perform side by side on a Family Karaoke Night. As North Ridge Home Program Interventionist Chris Hightower explains; this was a kickoff to a new series of family events. They’re taking an idea from the past, and making it bigger.
AUDIO: In years past we would do two to three family engagement activities a year. But this year we wanted to try to ramp that up; to try to further build out the bridge between the schools and the families, by providing activities that are exciting that kids want to come to, that parents can come to, and help build that school spirit.

Hightower says the Thursday night event was only the beginning.
AUDIO: Tonight is Karaoke Night. Next month is our Poetry/Open Mike. In November, we’re doing a Fall Fashion Show. So, we’ve got a lot of great stuff planned; just trying to show the community the real, true side of North Ridge, and to increase family engagement.
These special family events at North Ridge Middle School will be on the second Thursday of the month, 5:30 PM in the school cafetorium; which is on the lower level, across from the gymnasium.
