THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Mareyon Edwards 2025-CF-382
On September 9, 2025, Mareyon Edwards (DOB: 10/02/2003), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to Unlawful Possession of Weapon – Machine Gun, a class 2 felony, for 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. This will be served consecutively to a term of 2 years in 2023-CF-592 for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, a class 4 felony.
Following his imprisonment, Edwards will serve one year of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
The People presented evidence that on May 6, 2024, Danville Police responded to the area of Edgewood Drive for a gunshot victim. Review of surveillance footage showed Edwards running into the south door of a residence on Edgewood Drive holding a black firearm with an extended magazine. Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and located a backpack in the closet of a bedroom, including the firearm Edwards was seen in possession of on camera, a Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun with extended magazine and an automatic switch, making it a machine gun, loaded with 14 live rounds. Illinois State Police crime lab confirmed the firearm was fully automatic and DNA located on the grip and magazine belonged to Mareyon Edwards.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for their work in this case. She said, “This defendant, a repeat offender, was found in possession of a machine gun and refused to cooperate with police, after being injured by gunfire. This sentence reflects our commitment to enforcing the law fairly and firmly, especially
for the safety of the public.”
