THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS-GAZZETTE STORY BY JENNIFER BAILEY
DANVILLE — When asked how her experience was on the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., 91-year-old Mary Ruth (Hopkins) Oster said it was tiring but a wonderful trip full of emotional memories.
She was one of the 95 veterans, and the only female, who made the one-day trip this month for Honor Flight Misson No. 75. Oster served two years in the Navy.
She was supposed to go in the spring but was delayed in going due to a guardian change. Oster’s guardian on this flight was Mary Jane Eller.
After the plane ride, they had four busloads of veterans going around to different sites.
“It was a most wonderful experience; many different emotions,” Oster said.
