DANVILLE — When the St. James United Methodist Church Food Pantry started 18 years ago, organizers had no idea they’d be going this long with the community service.
Co-director Carol Olson said she’d seen another church along Logan Avenue helping the community with food donations, and she and other church members thought they could do that, too to help even more people.
The monthly food pantry continues today, giving away 912 bags of food (everybody gets at least two bags, and larger families get a double set), feeding about 400 families a month, representing about 1,200 people, and will be continuing without Carol and her husband, Mike, at the helm. The Olsons will be moving to the Indianapolis area to be closer to family.
