ABOVE: State Rep Brandun Schweizer, in attendance at Wednesday’s “Regional Roundtable” on Workforce Education at Vermilion County Farm Bureau building.
State Rep Brandun Schweizer spent his mornings this week in Savoy, Rantoul, and Danville holding informational Medicare 101 Seminars. Schweizer says, with Health Alliance coming to a close, lots of folks are looking for the right person to talk to.
AUDIO: To get the constituents in touch with those experts that know Medicare like the back of their hand. Being able to have individuals to reach out to, that are considered experts, to ask questions to; I think is probably one of the most important things, and one of the best aspects that came out of this.
Following Wednesday morning’s session at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, Schweizer reflected further on Health Alliance’s shutdown.
AUDIO: There are penalties if you try to switch over (on Medicare). But since Health Alliance has closed down, their options aren’t there anymore to have that same company. So, they’ll be getting a termination letter in the mail. And they have to keep that with them, so that anytime they want to switch over to a different carrier, they’re not going to get penalized with anything. And no matter what health problems that they had; other health companies are going to have to take them, because of that termination letter.
Schweizer stated that one good source of information is the Illinois Department on Aging SHIP (Seniors Health Insurance Program) program.
