Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing increases in the unemployment rates in Vermilion County and Danville for the fourth straight month. But both Vermilion County’s and Danville’s situations remain a little better than one year ago.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 5.9% in July to 6.2% in August. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 6.5% in August of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment increased from 7.0% in July to 7.2% in August. Danville stood at 8.1% in August of 2024.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 800 jobs from August of 2024 to August of 2025, with the current total of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,325.
In looking at specific categories, employment over the last year increased in Private Education – Health Services by 125 jobs, and in both Natural Resources – Mining and Other Services by 25 jobs.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 250 jobs in Government, 225 jobs in Professional – Business Services, 200 in Manufacturing, 150 in Trade-Transportation-Utilities, 75 in Construction, 50 in Financial Activities, and 25 in Leisure and Hospitality.
There were no changes over the past year in the Information category.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
