Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6. October 6: Food Preservation Watch Party: An Illinois Extension Series. Learn the basics of safe and effective food preservation with expert-led video sessions from the U of I. Perfect for gardeners, home cooks, and anyone curious about preserving seasonal flavors! This month: Canning Foods at Home. Join us on the 1st Monday of each month from 5:00 – 6:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 6: Free Lunch & Learn: Synergy Seminar Series. This month: Prevent Falls this Fall! Join us for a free lunch* provided by Synergy HomeCare as Elizabeth Sullard discusses preventative measures to reduce fall risk. *RSVP required for free lunch. October 7: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: 3D Pens. Get your tech on while you learn about 3D Pens. Use software to create your own 3D masterpiece! 5:00 PM in the Program Room. Ages 8-12.
October 7: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under – Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room.
October 8: Teen Crafternoons. Stop by on Wednesday afternoons for an hour of fun, hands-on craft. This week: Watercolor Painting! No registration needed, just bring your creativity and hang out! 4:00 – 5:00 PM on the 2nd Floor. Ages 13-19.
October 8: Teen Writing Club. Come write, chill, and connect. No pressure – just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts and snacks to fuel your mind. Every Wednesday, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 8: Ukulele Music Club. Join the Ukulele Music Club every 2nd Wednesday for beginner basics at 5 PM and a group jam session at 6 PM – both welcoming all skill levels! Bring your own uke or borrow one of our limited extras and enjoy making music together. The club may even perform around the community! October 8: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
October 9: Haunted Makeup Workshop. Get spooky with Makeup Artists from the upcoming VC FEAR GROUNDS as they teach you how to use bruise wheels, liquid latex, and fake blood. Kids will learn about creepy clowns. Adults/Teens will learn to create terrifyingly realistic haunted looks – just in time for spooky season! October 10: McCool Mythos: A Haunted Local Author Evening. Join local horror authors M. I. H. McCool and John R. McCool III for a chilling, adult book fair-style event! Experience eerie displays, haunted readings, spooky swag, and a chance to purchase their macabre works – with 10% of all book sales donated back to the library! Are you brave enough to join us? 👻 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
October 11: Lit Fit with Mandy. Join us Saturdays for a dance fitness series that’s as fun as your favorite book. All fitness levels welcome – just bring your water bottle and wear clothes that can handle your best moves! 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
October 11: Sensory and Bilingual Story Adventures. A unique programming experience combining bilingual storytelling with sensory-friendly activities, designed to engage children of all abilities. This inclusive program creates a welcoming space where stories come to life through interactive elements, fostering language development and sensory exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Saturdays at 11:00 AM in the Children’s Department.
October 11: Ukulele Music Club at The Berry Cool Market! Stop by our tent at the market on the west Library Lawn to get a taste of the fun! Bring your own uke or try out one of the library’s. This is a great way to test out something new or revisit a hidden talent. Let’s make music together! 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
