THE FOLLOWING IS A JASON WHALING RELEASE
Danville, IL – [Insert Date] – Community leader and longtime finance professional Jason Whaling has officially announced his candidacy for Vermilion County Treasurer in the November 2026 election.
“Vermilion County is my home,” Whaling said. “I’ve spent years helping families here build financial stability, and I want to bring that same focus to protecting our public funds and serving our community with transparency and care.”
With nearly three decades of experience in real estate and finance, Whaling has helped more than 1,600 families achieve homeownership in Vermilion County — including many low- and moderate-income households. He has helped secure over $500,000 in grants for down payments and closing costs, and his careful underwriting has led to an exceptionally low loan default rate of under 0.5 percent.
“My goal has always been to set homeowners up for success — not just today, but for the long haul,” Whaling said.
Whaling believes financial education is key to long-term stability.
“Homeownership isn’t just about qualifying for a loan — it’s about understanding what comes next,” he said. “Real estate taxes can rise, and payments that feel comfortable today might look different in a few years. I’ve always made it a point to help buyers prepare for the future, not just the present.”
As Treasurer, Whaling plans to modernize how Vermilion County manages its finances. He aims to diversify county investments, safeguard public funds, and bring greater transparency to financial reporting.
“Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going and to trust that it’s being handled responsibly,” Whaling said. “I’ll work to ensure Vermilion County’s finances are stable, secure, and well-managed.
Since moving to Vermilion County in 2013, Whaling has been deeply involved in local service and leadership. He is a two-term president of the Danville Sunrise Rotary Club and vice president of the Habitat for Humanity of Danville Executive Board. He also serves on the Finance Committee of Crosspoint Human Services, helping guide the organization’s financial stability.
In addition, Whaling has held numerous leadership roles with Scouting America, including Den Leader, Troop Committee Chair, District Chair, and member of the council executive committee. He was honored with the BSA District Award of Merit for his service.
Whaling lives in Vermilion County with Fiancé Kendra and his two children, Riley and Mikayla.
“This community is where I’ve built my career, raised my family, and committed my time,” he said. “Serving as Treasurer would be an extension of that commitment — to protect what matters and help Vermilion County thrive.”
