THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On September 28, 2025 around 4:32 pm, Danville Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash in the area of Bowman Avenue and Crestview Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a 14-year-old juvenile pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. Medical personnel arrived on scene and the juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. While at the scene, officers were informed that the vehicle involved had fled the scene and was last seen traveling eastbound on Crestview Drive.
Danville Police immediately initiated an investigation into the incident by interviewing a witness and reviewing footage from Flock traffic cameras in the vicinity.
Through these efforts, DPD identified a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse as the suspect vehicle and obtained the license plate number registered to the owner. Officers located the vehicle at a residence in the 100 block of Nicklas Avenue and made contact with the driver, identified as George E. Atkinson a 35-year-old resident of Danville, IL. Atkinson was subsequently taken into custody on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury
Members of the public are reminded that a complaint is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
