Things were already rolling Tuesday evening (Oct 14th) for the arrival of 54 visitors bureaus from around the state; for Danville’s hosting of the Illinois Destinations Association Fall Conference. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr was hosting a welcoming party at the Fischer Theatre; and thrilled that the moment had arrived.
AUDIO: This is just an example of what we can do when we work together. Everyone from Vermilion Advantage, the Visitors Bureau, the county, the city; everyone has worked together to make this happen. But especially Tracey and Rhonda from the Visitors Bureau, they have done a phenomenal job. And we are just so proud to welcome everyone and showcase Danville.
Danville Visitors Bureau CEO Rhonda Ellis is thrilled the Illinois Destinations Association gave Danville this chance.
AUDIO: It’s really exciting that they chose us to host this, and we’re excited to show them what Danville’s all about. It’ll give us a little credit, and put us on the map. I will say it’s a lot of work; but it’s been fun, and we’re excited to show them what we got.
One of the visitors is Brittany Henry; Illinois Destinations Association Chair and Director of the Jacksonville Area Visitors Bureau. She noticed a similarity between artwork in Jacksonville and Danville.
AUDIO: You have your wall done murals, which I was just discussing earlier. Very similar; we have the same thing. You have more than we do, but I think it’s a great tourism asset to have; to have these artists that come from all over town. And I’d love to see us partner on a tour one day.
The conference will consist of meetings and activities at the David S. Palmer Arena on Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th, along with a Wednesday evening outing at Danville Stadium for live music and ballparkfood.
