THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RELEASE
The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 3 vehicle crash on State Route 1 at 15th Street, at the North end of Georgetown at approximately 12:16PM on 10/15/25. The investigation shows that 3 vehicles were traveling southbound when the rear vehicle tried to pass the middle vehicle. This vehicle then rear-ended the front vehicle. The passing vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound vehicle head-on. The passing vehicle had 3 occupants and the other two vehicles each had 1 occupant. One person from the vehicle that was passing the other vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene. All other persons involved were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s office.
