Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the identity of a man who died Wednesday afternoon (October 15, 2025) in a three- vehicle crash at Georgetown. She says the victim is 51-year-old Michael L. Vermillion of Danville.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police responded to the crash along Illinois route 1 at 15th Street, at the north edge of Georgetown at about 12:15 p.m. Deputies say their preliminary investigation found there were three vehicles traveling southbound when the rear vehicle attempted to pass the middle one. This vehicle then rear-ended the front one. The passing vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound vehicle head-on.
The vehicle that was passing had three occupants, and the other two were occupied by only the drivers. One of the three people in the unit that was passing – 51-year-old Michael L. Vermillion of Danville – was pronounced dead at the scene. All the other people involved were transported to the hospital by ambulances.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled later this week.
